Full course description

This course discusses two elements of an engaging online course: instructional media and active learning strategies. We discuss key design strategies for creating effective instructional media that promotes meaningful learning in online environments. You’ll explore how different forms of media—such as text, audio, video, and emerging technologies—support knowledge retention and engagement, and you’ll examine how thoughtful design choices can help students connect new ideas to prior knowledge while staying actively involved in the learning process. You'll also explore active learning as an instructional method engaging students in the learning beyond listening and passive note-taking.
At the end of the course, you will create either a piece of instructional media (short video or infographic) or a plan for incorporating active learning in your course.
